On June 7, 2010, the 1000th Needs employee became certified in the We Expect ID program - a remarkable achievement.

This was reached by an employee at the Dominion (near Cape Breton), Nova Scotia location using the custom on-line internet information and training developed by the Canadian Convenience Stores Association.

 The We-Expect-ID Age Verification program is being implemented by most of the major convenience store chains and many independent stores. We are working on expanding the program across Canada to ALL retailers.

The Mission is to assist and train our convenience store operators and their employees in upholding the law by ensuring that any product restricted to minors will not be sold to minors.

This program extends the CCSA “Responsible Retailer Training” initiative.

Age-Restricted products included in various laws refer to the following product categories:
    •    Alcohol
    •    Tobacco
    •    Adult-themed magazines, video movies and video games
    •    Lottery tickets
    •    Fireworks and other combustibles

We Expect ID is the cornerstone of the Canadian Convenience Stores Association’s guiding principle of ‘Responsible Community Retailing’.  
There are tens of thousands of convenience stores in communities across Canada, and we are entrusted with selling more age-restricted products than any other retail outlet.
