As we move into 2011, it is prudent of the OCSA to remind our retail members to revisit, review and retrain all of your employees on the merits of a zero tolerate age testing program under We Expect ID in all of your locations. We have seen some fairly aggressive local health boards using the C-Store channel as a vice to secure future age testing funds and then using the media to reinforce their programs with the understanding that the channel still needs a baby sitter at a very high cost.

Kingston cigarette retailers need to do a better job when it comes to verifying the ages of tobacco customers, the local health unit says. Of 146 retailers tested in the area served by Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington Public Health, only 64 asked for ID and correctly calculated the purchaser's age, said Paula Muis, the health unit's public health promoter and tobacco enforcement officer.
